    Server error port 80

About six months ago I started getting a 'can't find web server at 'phoenix-cfs.org' at port 80' error message that at least temporarily made it impossible to publish. The message grew in frequency; for the last several weeks I havent been able to publish at home but have been able to at the library. The message also popped up when I tried to get on to Internet Explorer - I know use Firefox only. Now I cant publish from any location.

I contacted my host - he said the website is fine from his end. I tried FP cleaner - no luck. I tried to rebuild an internet connection from inside Web Expression  using MSN - no luck. I checked the firewall - it looks OK to me (there is an exception for expression web) and I tried turning it off and seeing if that made a difference - it didn't. The passive FTP button is not checked if that matters. I am dead in the water - haven't been able to publish for over a week. What would effect both IE and Expression Web? Any ideas?

    Re: Server error port 80

Have you checked that a firewall or security software update hasn't started blocking your publishing?

Also, port 80 is used for http publishing (FrontPage Server Extensions) not for FTP publishing which uses port 21.

If you are publishing by ftp toggle over to active mode. Some web hosts require active mode for publishing but sometimes ISP (your home internet provider) might block active ftp on their side just like many of them block port 25 smtp so you can't send mail except through their mail servers.
