It seems like I'm having some problems whenever I make a change of my preferences or profile. I get an error page saying that there was an error in the database; however, most of the changes I make are kept when I go back.

I'm sorry ... on the forum here, not in Expression Web. When I change something like my personal profile, I get an error page, though my changes are applied.
