Wanted: One FrontPage page to migrate to Expression

I am working on a new tutorial showing the steps to take an existing FrontPage website to migrate to Expression Web to illustrate adding a doctype, cleaning-up and migrating presentation from font tags to styles. If you would like me to consider using a page from your website in the tutorial please post the url in this thread.

What I am looking for in the page to migrate are:

    • Font-tags for presentation
    • Visual headers created by using font elements stuch as <font size="6"><b>, etc.
    • Limited use of bots: acceptible bots are navigation components, include pages, shared borders.
    • Will consider a site that uses a theme but that is not required.
    • No forms since I do not intend to rewrite any forms processors in this tutorial. I may do one later that includes forms migration.

No payment will be made or fee charged for the page selected for use in the tutorial. The owner of the selected site must agree to the publication of hte tutorial and a copy of both the before and after page along with all images and content being maintained on our servers for as long as the tutorial is available. In exchange, the site owner will have permision to use the page we create and if a DWT is created as part of the tutorial (as yet undecided) they will have permission to use that DWT and/or modify it themselves for use on their site.

Please consider using this FrontPage site: www.e-bzzz.com. Except for Photoshop graphics, (hope this doesn't disqualify it), the whole thing was done years ago in FrontPage 2000 I think. It's in pretty bad shape. It breaks in Firefox.

Re: Wanted: One FrontPage page to migrate to Expression

I maintain a FP site for my Sports Club at http://www.osarange.com/.  It is the only site of the 10 I maintain that I haven't converted to Expression Web and CSS.  This is because it is the only site I ever created in FP that I used themes, shared borders, and navigation on, and therefore it is the hardest to convert, and I saved it for last.  For instance, I converted my computer club site, http://www.lscs.us/, to 100% XHTML strict using CSS 2.1 positioning, and it validates.  I hope you will use mine, or at least pick a site that uses navigation, themes, and shared borders.

Re: Wanted: One FrontPage page to migrate to Expression

    Hi Cheryl,

I have not yet purchased Expression Web for fear of this very subject, so a tutorial would be great.  My site has existed for more than 4 years now and it was originally created and managed using FP2000, then 2002, and now 2003.  I have never used a different piece of software for the site and it's management.  I am strictly self taught and thus, I'm sure I have plenty of bloated code lying around the site.  I have tried numerous times in the past to become W3C compliant to no avail and eventually gave up trying.  There are hundreds of pages to choose from and the site currently uses a .dwt that I designed using FP2003.  Please consider my site for the page your wish to perform the transformation.  My website is http://www.wm8c.com

Thanks for the consideration....Todd WM8C's Ham Links http://www.wm8c.com

Cheryl, your request came at a perfect time for me.   I've started trying to clean up some of my Frontpage sites to move to Expression.

One of my next tasks is preparing the site  http://lakeozarkview.com  for the move.  I realize I will have to come up with another photo gallery.  I also need to come up with a better menu bar,  In any event, I would appreciate your consideration of this site for your project.

Thanks to you and the other contributors to the board.

    Hi,

I have a site at www.lamerlodge.com that I created some years ago with FP2000. It is quite a simple site that is very definitely non-standards oriented and contains zero CSS.

I have just acquired Expression Web and am faced with converting this and other sites over time.

All guidance will be gratefully accepted.

    Hi Cheryl,

Your is free to use any of my page at www.WhiplashInfo.se

The start page (Default.asp) consits of nearly all of FP tecnics. I use shared borders for navigation (top border), copy write info (bottom border) and banners (right border).

Another page, but more simple, is whiplash_syndrom_karta.htm which have a mapp (Swedish "karta"=English "mapp") with a click abeled mapp. The click abeled links in the different parts of the mapp leads to different text mass under the mapp.

    Regards / Tomas

We would love to have our site considered.

    http://www.thermalangel.com

I developed the site in Frontpage using a template I bought.  I don't have any coding experience at all.  We sell a product called the Thermal Angel.  It's a battery-powered blood and IV fluid infusion warmer.  Our product helps to prevent hypothermia, and is used very heavily by the US Military as well as US hospitals, EMS and flight services.  We handle all of our business over the internet and phone, with no sales reps in the field, and we sell direct to the end users.

Re: Wanted: One FrontPage page to migrate to Expression

Ok, we're almost a year after the initial selection process of the site to migrate over to Expression Web.  I'd be interested in a "Where are they now?" assessment of how the sites submitted managed to progress over the course of the year.  Perhaps I am asking for something that's not realistic at this point since you can not necessarily compare "before" and "after".  I just know that put a lot of time and effort in to this migration, and have learned a lot over the past year.

In any event thanks to all the "MVPs" who have helped me during the past year.

Re: Wanted: One FrontPage page to migrate to Expression

    Hello:

Looking forward to your tutorial. Please may ask or suggest that you include the nuts and bolts issues of migrating from FP to EW. Things such as what can/should be deleted on the sever side when getting completely away from FP as well as the computer side, i.e. all the clean up that needs to be done. I see lots of web info regarding what is new and different about EW but nothing on what exact steps need to be taken to ween one completely away from FP.

If the foregoing is not within the scope of your work, perhaps you know of, or can suggest, where it might be found?

    Thank you for you consideration.

Re: Wanted: One FrontPage page to migrate to Expression

Do you mean on the page or within the website? Locally or on the remote site.

Most of what you can remove depends on whether you are using FPSE for publishing or not. I would recommend keeping the _vit folders locally since without them links may not update correctly if you move files in your local site and files attached to DWTs have to be open to update. You do not need to upload the _vti folders to your remote site when you use FTP.

     Mike,

The migration article got lost in the either, half done I'm afraid I fell down on the job.Sad  I will try and get it finished up as soon as the migration to the new forum software and consolidation of the main site with the forum on the same server is complete.
