No Expression Web Help (F1) from Help Menu

    Hi,

Just installed Microsoft Expression Web (12.0.4518.1014) English from MSDN subscriber downloads for evaluation as a replacement of FP2003.

I installed everything except foreign language options

When I first opened the application, a query appeared asking if I wanted to make this my default HTML editor popped up, and I replied NO.

I then attempted to access the Web Help from the Help menu.

A message box appeared stating that something was wrong with the installation and that I should perform a repair.

Tried this again with the same result.

Third try, a Expression Web Help browser came up, however it is completely nonresponsive.

If I type something in the Search Box and click the Search button, nothing happens.

I went into setup and attempted a repair. Application said repair was sucessful.

Same thing keeps happening with Help.

    My Configuration is:

Windows Server 2003 SP2 (2Gig RAM), IIS, ASP.NET, Perl (ActivePerl)

    IE6 SP2, Firefox 2.x

Visual Studio 2005 Pro, MSOFFICE 2003 PRO with FP2003, Visual Foxpro 9 and SQL Server 2005

I have other questions, but I would rather see if answers are in the Help before bothering anyone.

    Thanks

Have you tried any of the solutions in the "No Help files" thread http://forum.by-expression.com/forums/thread/837.aspx

I read through that thread yesterday. (that's how I discovered this site via google).

The only thing that seemed applicable was the default .xml file association not being Expression.

I changed it, and the results are the same. The TOC seems to work, but nothing happens when a section is clicked on.

Did I miss something? Web Help seems to be OK in other MS programs such as Visual Studio.

Is there any dependence on IE7? (I don't have it installed this server)

I think there is a dependence on IE but it shouldn't matter if it is 6 or 7.

At this point the only suggestin I can make is to file a bug over on http://connect.microsoft.com You will need to register for Connect then join the Expression Feedback tool. The file a bug, give them all the system info you have and mention that Visual Studio and other MS help files work.

    Thanks, I'll try that.

Re: No Expression Web Help (F1) from Help Menu

    Did a little more research.

Only Part of my ms-help for Visual Studio was working.

Document Explorer was answering "cannot find server" for almost all queries involving local ms-help topics.

    Found a solution at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=464723&SiteID=1.

It involves logging off your own account, logging on as Administrator, and manually deleting "System:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files".

Once I did this, all the Helps (including Expression Web Help--CLView) started functioning normally).

I guess what threw me initially was that there NO RESPONSE at all from Expression Web Help vs. repeated error messages from dexplore.exe. Glad this was the same problem.

Great, thanks for posting the resolution.

When I update the FAQs I'll add your solution.
