No help files with Expression Web?

I started with an evaluation version of EW and after installing (under Vista Business) I missed any help (pressing F1 or asking any "question" gave the same reaction: "There are no answers matching your question" (I get the message in Dutch, because of having Vista installed with the Dutch language, so maybe it looks a little bit different in English)  Because there were enough sources to be found on the Internet I didn't mind very much.

So after working with the evaluation version I bought my own upgrade (from FP2003). No problems installing and opening the program but again: NO HELP?! I had a short correspondance with Tina Clarke about this and she showed me the microsoft help download (didn't even know that the "old" Windows Help isn't in Vista anymore!) - http://tinyurl.com/2n2z7g - and I installed it. BUT STILL NO HELP! I wrote her:

"Thanks for your suggestion, but it doesn't work. I have all kind of help in all other programs (pre-Vista, like FP2003, Outlook 2003, Office 2007, etc, but not in EW! Whenever and wherever I press F1 or ask a question (e.g. "page properties") I get a window telling me (in dutch) that there are no matches to my question... I don't make a big problem of it. I have you and the others and some forums. I'll manage, I hope." And now even Tina doesn't know:

"ok ... not heard of that before

go to the expression web newsgroup ... there is a huge variety of people there .. I'm sure you will get the answer there...

Cheryl does not know I asked her.

let me know if you get the answer. It could be a setting you have.... give all the info including the below in your post to the newsgroup with a good subject line.

    Tina"

So here i am with this problem. Anyone ever heard of this? Thanks for any help.

    Just my two cents,

Do you get the same result both when asking in Dutch and in English?

As I think I said in the public group there should be help files at least in English but if you have XML associated with something other than the default they may not work. Also, with a dual language set-up there could be a problem with the language pack interfering but I simply don't know.

Thanks for the (2) cents anyway. Yes, there is no difference in asking in Dutch or in English. Anyway, while the EW version is an English one I put my questions in English anyway. Thanks again!

I did not quite understand your remark about XML, but I remembered I was asked (during Vista installation?) if I would set the XML-editor as default program for opening .XML files. I just tried to change it to EW as default. Was that what you meant? Anyway there was no different result.

Maybe there is something with my (Dutch) Vista Business and the English EW.

Thank you anyway for thinking with and for me! As I told you, it is not a big item: I have my Total training course and the book "Using EW", so what can go wrong?

And btw, I installed Vista 2 times and 2 times things were working (or not working!) different. Maybe I'll better wait for the SP1.

    Greetings, Bert

The XML file association issue sometimes occurs when someone installs Dreamweaver or another program that takes over the xml file association. I thnk your issue though is the one address in the last paragraph on this page

    http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/readme.aspx?key=web#fileextensionsvista

If you have problems with other help files this might be something to check as well. https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6EBCFAD9-D3F5-4365-8070-334CD175D4BB&displaylang=en

    Cheryl, you're wonderful!

    It worked!

I just changed the language for Office 2007 - only the language setting for the help files - into English and with a tap on F1 the help window in EW popped up, even without filling out the question window!

So it was the first link you gave me. And it WAS a language compatibility problem. Thanks a lot to everyone who joined in and tried to help!

I've got even better news for you go get and the Expression Web Language Packs.

"The Language Packs enable you to check spelling for multiple languages. They
also enable displaying the Expression Web interface, including the Help
topics, in the languages supported by the language pack. For more
information, see How to Check the Spelling of Different Languages. "

What more can I ask for? I downloaded the language pack, mostly for spelling, for I like to be the helpfiles in the language, the program uses.

Thank you for the tip, Cheryl. Again!

I've had a long-standing problem with the Search function in the Help dialog: it always returns a page in xml code. Any fixes to this?  Many thanks.

Re: No help files with Expression Web?

I too have the same issue with the help file returning xml in the main page and in the search.   XML is associated to the XML Editor.  Tried changing it to expressions...made no difference.  The Language associations as mentioned earlier are also not applicable.  This seems thread seems to be the only place anywhere that I can find any reference to this issue so I am hoping someone may have some additional info that would help.  Thanks
