EW upgrade from FP Student edition?

On my computer I have Front Page 2003 Student/Teacher version. Does anyone know from personal experience whether the Upgrade version of Expression Web will install on this computer, or do I need the Full version of Expression Web?

I wish to have the full version of Expression Web installed, not a Student/Teacher version with its limitations, as I may wish to get involved in items for commercial use.

No personal experience with upgrading from an academic version but the upgrade is more of the competitive type and says any version.

I did not know that FP was available in a student and teacher version. thought A was either academic, retail or enterprise.

I just bought my upgrade and it says on the box's sidepanel: "You must be licensed to one of the following products to be eligible for this upgrade: Microsoft Frontpage(R) All versions."

My comment: This might exclude Frontpage Express (that wasn't ever paid for) but include any other version of FP. The Upgrade came with its own Key in the box, and because I just had formatted and reinstalled Vista there wasn't any trace of my FP2003 on the pc anymore. No problem, no asking for an older version; just fill in the key and OK.

    Hoping this helped.

Remember that some of the qualifying products were only shipped on floppy disk (FP 98 for example) and others on both floppy and cd. (My copy of FP 2000 is on floppies.)

Many of today's machines don't have the option to read a floppy disk so it would be hard to verify. I'm not even sure that the early FP 97 or 98 installs required a product key (oh for a return to such trusting days.) so asking for a disk or even a PID would exclude a lot of people.

You will need to keep your qualifying disk whether it is floppy or cd in case of an audit but you should be fine.

Thank you for the information about how the Upgrade worked for you. I hope it will work in my situation just as successfully.

You were correct about what my version of FrontPage is called - I have just looked and it is called an Academic version as you thought.

I am in the UK, and I did email Microsoft (USA) asking if my version of FrontPage was a qualifying product for the Upgrade version of Expression Web. But they declined to answer, directing me to ask Microsoft in England. But Microsoft in England will not accept email messages. Here in the UK the full version of Expression Web is around the equivalent of 512 US Dollars, the Upgrade version about 171 US Dollars, a difference not to be ignored.

I take your point, particularly about the floppy disk situation which I had not realised.

    Thank you.
