    Books about Expression Web

I believe the first book out was Special Edition Using Microsoft Expression Web by Jim Cheshire. I got it when first available and found it to be very useful.

The book that was expected to be first but was delayed is Microsoft Expression Web: Visual QuickStart Guide by Nolan Hester. I also purchased that book because I had found the book in that series on PHP to be very good. I was quite disappointed by the EW book primarily because it completely ignores the html code aspect of using EW.  I would think if you never look at the code you could end up with a real mess of automatically generated embedded styles, in line styles/tags and some external styles. Another thing I though strange is that the author gave himself his own 5-star review on Amazon.

I would like to see opinions about these and other EW books.

    Re: Books about Expression Web

The only book on Expression Web I have had a chance to look at is Jim Chesire's Using Expression Web that you mentioned. I will admit that I have not had time to do more than look at a few bits here and there but what I've seen lives up to Jim's prior books which have been excellent.

For the most part I am staying away from reading books on Expression Web until I am 100% finishd with mine snice I do not want to be influenced by the work of others. Which is another reason I have not gone through all of theTotal Training Video on Exprssion Web. My book should be put to bed very soon now and then I will be starting a series of reviews on books and trainng material available for Expression Web. Look for the first ones to start appearing the beginning of April on the main http://by-expression.com website.

In the meantime I will be looking forward to see what people have to say here.

I too got the Cheshire book. It was useful and helpful, but I kept finding myself growling under my breath about the depth he gave some topics compared to others--you know, tell me more about this, but don't waste my time with all that. No book can be complete, especially for something like EW. I would recommend it with the caveat that it doesn't cover the changeover from FP to EW as much as might be hoped, and CSS wasn't given the depth it deserved.  Still referring to it now and then.

Define good book on CSS. l have a dozen and have loo at even more before deciding which book to use on our classes. Pat gave you to one I chose. I wanted a book that was good for o beginner but still offered enough to be useful as student's skills grew.

As much as I like Eric Meyers books they are usually not the best for someone who is an absolute beginner with the possible exception of "The Definitive Guide "which really is just that but if is a technical book and not one that does a offer a lot of hand holding As a reference of belongs on my shelf,.I think highly enough of of it I have with the first and the second editions and may well buy the recently released third edition.

    Re: Books about Expression Web

After working my way through Janine Warner's Total Training DVD series on Experssion Web, I decided that it would be useful to actually learn html and css. I picked up a copy of "Build Your Own Web Site the Right Way Using HTML & CSS" by Ian Lloyd, largely through strong recommendations on a css web site. But when a copy of "Head Start HTML With CSS & XHTML" that I had on order from Amazon arrived, that's the one I really dove into. I've now nearly completed it and have found it immensely useful; a throughly enjoyable, pain-free way to come up to speed on the subject. Now, I really understand the reasoning behind all of Warner's mouse-clicks; what the menus are and do and which ones I need. The code even makes sense to me. I consider the Head Star book (by Elisabeth & Eric Freeman) an indispensable guide for the casual FrontPage user who's migrating to Expression Web and needs to learn what all of the standards-based fuss is about and learn it in the most efficient way. It doesn't pretend to be a definitive reference text on CSS, but it will get you pretty far along the way.

    Re: Books about Expression Web

Wel I don't cover migration from FrontPage to Expression explicitly either. There is a small secton on preparing existing content for an Expression DWT or Master Page which could be taken as how to bring FrontPage (though it is really about any legacy page) and using it in Expression Web.

I'm about half way through the written tutorial on converting the Ocala Sportsman Association to a standards complaint Expression Web site and hope to get it finished up before much longer. That should help those migrating since it is pretty granular.
