More on Expression Web v3

Somasegar posted on his blog today some of the new things in EW v3. He's got more on the version of SuperPreview that will be in EW v3, sftp/ftps, something called "snapshot preview", Silverlight video and Photoshop integration see:  http://blogs.msdn.com/somasegar/archive/2009/06/05/expression-web-3.aspx

What do I think? Well, given what little we've been let in on so far there had better be a hell of a deal forthcoming from MS if they expect me to upgrade. SuperPreview? SuperSo-what? I have VPCs for everything MS that I need to cover, and I don't work visually in any event, at least not when creating HTML and CSS. SFTP and FTPS? Whoopee. I use a third-party FTP client as it is, and it handles either very nicely, thank you. Mac/PC display differences? Yawn... I can adjust the gamma on my display (which is the basis for the majority of differences, anyway), assuming that I (or my clients) actually cared about those differences. TFS? Great. Now all I have to do is join an organization as part of a collaborative team that can use it. Anyone got an application I can fill out?

The point is, other than some minor niggling issues, and one irritating but not show-stopping issue (image preview), I can work quite productively in v.2. Given that MS has shown precisely zero propensity to fix problems via in-version service packs, and has so far tended to at least outwardly ignore the wishes of the users of this product, they had better come up with (a) some damned compelling productivity enhancements in the next version (i.e. not gee-whiz eye candy crap), or (b) a nice offer for those of us who have put up with EW2's issues for the last 14 months. If not, I'll probably still be using EW2 when v.4 mysteriously makes its appearance, sans public betas or CTPs...

cheers,

scott
